When I hear the word “elder,” I think of something or someone old and wise with a lot to offer the world.

Elderberries have been around for centuries and are filled with fantastic benefits to offer you and your health. They are most commonly known for their contribution to jam, jellies, wines, syrups and other desert like foods and beverages because of their sharp, sweet flavor.

Immune-Boosting Elderberry Tea

Ingredients:

  • 16 oz filtered water
  • 2 tbsp dried elderberries
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp raw honey (optional, for sweetening)

Instructions:

 

  • Put water and elderberries into a small saucepan.
  • Add turmeric and cinnamon.
  • Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let cool for about 5 minutes.
  • Strain through a fine mesh strainer and pour into individual mugs.
  • Stir in raw honey if using.
  • Enjoy!

 

*Note of caution: be sure to get good quality elderberries from certified and reputable sources as they are wild berries and can contain traces of cyanide (also why it’s suggested to cook them or eat them dry). If you want to harvest them yourself, be sure to do your research and make sure you know what you’re doing.
